Apple & Pear Relish
Savoury sweet apple and pear relish recipe for topping your favourite meats and fish.
Savoury and sweet, this relish uses fresh autumn apples and pears to create a condiment you're going to want to find reasons to make.
I love using this on salmon burgers and jalapeño burgers, in wraps, on hot dogs, as a condiment on pork chops, and more.
It's so simple to make, just put everything in a sauce pan and stir while it simmers down to a nice, thick relish. Store it in an airtight container for several days. If it lasts that long!
Ingredients
(Makes 8 servings)
3/4 cup premium apple juice, not from concentrate (or apple cider)
1 large Honeycrisp apple, peeled, cored and finely diced
1 Bartlett pear, peeled, cored and finely diced
2 small shallots, finely diced
1, 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions
In a medium pot over medium-high heat, add all of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and continue to simmer, stirring often, until all the liquid evaporates (about 20 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature before storing in an airtight container. Use as desired. Should last in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.
